2009 Saga Ruby

A surprisingly pleasant experience. Why surprisingly? We've all heard the bad things said about Gaddafi and "rogue" States and before we even went ashore we were informed that unless we went on a guided tour or on the supplied shuttle bus we didn't go. No casual walking ashore (it all gives one no confidence)! Also (let's be honest) in some African countries you get pestered. None of that, we got the shuttle bus and strolled through the market. No pestering and the people were extremely friendly (I don't see why they shouldn't be but they must hear very bad things about us so...). An experience I can recommend.

Sadly things have moved on since then so it is not a safe place to visit but I can't believe that the friendly people have changed.
