A monument to the Soviet
victory in WWII and the "Liberation of Riga"! As you can imagine,
it's a great cause of controversy - some seeing it as a memorial to
their loved ones who died in WWII and some seeing it as a reminder of
Soviet oppression. It's easier for us outside to have a less emotional
view and say that it's part of the history of Riga (like it or not)
and it is a very impressive monument. The Soviet system has disintegrated,
rejoice at that and admire what they left.
