The rather beautiful
building above is the Blackheads' House. Originally built in the 14th.
Century for the "Brotherhood of Blackheads" (a Guild for unmarried
German merchants in Riga) most of the embellishments were added between
1580 and 1886. It was destroyed in WWII and the Soviets demolished the
remains in 1948. What you see now was lovingly reconstructed between
1995 and 1999.
