2002 Saga Rose

Pity, only one day in Rome on a coach trip from Civitavecchia. Most of that was spent in the Vatican (after queuing for 30 minutes), fascinating but you can have too much culture when you've only got a few hours and the guide seemed to give so much information that one can't take it all in. Mind you, the Cistene Chapel was certainly worth a visit although, even with that, the guide had given us so much info before we went in that we could probably all have described the ceiling without seeing it! That, however, is what you get on a one day coach trip - there's nowhere for the coach to stop so you literally "see" the sites. Had a little time in St. Peter's Square and THAT was definitely worth it. Lunch was included (pasta, pork and potatoes and fruit salad with a glass of something sparkly) and was OK but after the meals we'd had on the ship......! Got back to the ship at 7pm and I don't think anyone really felt that we'd a great trip, a long day with a lot of time on our feet.

Ah well, another place we'll have to go back to.

St. Peter's Square, Rome
