We'd never heard of it!
The Tall Ships Race is, apparently, held annually in Europe and is mainly
to encourage and train young people to sail. We stayed overnight in
Turku and were privileged to depart before the tall ships and anchor
nearby to watch the procession (this leg was, I believe, not actually
a race). Absolutely awesome to see all the ships and boats (ranging
from a one man canoe to 3-masters) milling around. One ship called Royalist,
which had won one leg with a crew of 16 girls and 8 boys, had been visited
by many of the Sapphire passengers and they pulled alongside and all
the crew did a great rendition of Y.M.C.A. ( as per Village People).
Much waving and cheering, really something to be part of. If anyone
who was on the Royalist reads this, many thanks - you really helped
to make our holiday. Several photos of the Royalist here: https://tallshipsgallery.co.uk/2017/08/08/ts-royalist/
