This is a strange one! I never saw Frank but I loved his records AND there is one particular song that keeps appearing in my head. It's done it again tonight (just 8 days after he died)! I am now whistling "I listen to my heart" (written by Frank). Why? I don't even know now if Frank's version is the trigger or the instrumental version by the Spotnicks (a top 40 UK hit in 1963). Frank was a huge star in the early 60's
and in 1962/63 had four #1's in the UK including his biggest selling
(and, in my opinion, best record) "I
remember you". "I listen to my heart" was the flipside.
A couple of things about "I remember you". In the early 60's
the BBC Light Programme had a (daily?) programme in which current records
were "covered" (probably live) by other singers. I first heard
"I remember you" on this and, I have it in my mind, that the
singer was Vince Hill (relatively unknown at the time). I'm probably
wrong but....possibly? The other thing is, when talking to my sister
about Frank, she reminded me that her baby daughter, now a retired lady,
used to sing along with Frank but she sang "I remember Lou"!
Memories are made of this. |
