What a stunning place, the highlight of the cruise! We were supposed
to visit Georgia on our 2008 Black Sea
Melodies trip but because Russia had invaded this was cancelled.
Worth waiting for.
We didn't book an organised tour but the town was excellent just walking
around AND there is a cable car, very reasonable price (€5 for
the two of us), and, of course well worth the trip. Just a step off
the ship and there are palm trees, lawns, flower beds and most attractive
buildings. We were bowled over, no graffitti, no litter and a nice blend
of old and modern. We kept coming across other people from the ship
(all smiling) and the greeting was always "What a lovely place".
However, they are obviously having problems attracting the tourists
as there was an unfinished Holiday Inn bearing a sign "Opening
May 2013". what happened there?
